Mark 16:20 (ESV)
And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.
Jesus tells us, like the apostles, to go out and proclaim, preach, teach and testify about what Jesus has done, is doing and will continue to do in people’s lives. He instructs us to bring the message of salvation, hope and eternal life to others. This is the fundamental work of evangelism.
Eighty percent of Christians today have the mind set that, “If I can get someone to church, the pastor can preach to them.” That is nuts! It’s a cop out. The pastor’s responsibility is to shepherd the flock, and equip the saints for the work of the ministry.
My responsibility (and yours) is to do two things:
1. Go
2. Proclaim the gospel
When we do our part, God has promised that
- He will be working with us
- He will confirm the word
- There will be signs following
When you and I go out into the culture daily and share the gospel, the Lord is working with us. We are not alone! We will see fruit from the message by the Lord confirming it and the signs following will be many coming to the Lord.
The joy of this Pastor’s heart is when someone comes to me and says, “Pastor, I shared the gospel today with someone and they put their faith, trust and hope in Jesus Christ. When can they be baptized?”
That is evangelism! Go out today and allow God to use you to share the message and watch the Lord confirm it.
